Thank God for progress in the bra world. As women, we’ve been told a pack of lies our entire lives.

We’ve been told that wired bras provide better shape, and we’ve been told all sorts of myths about wireless bras — that they aren’t supportive enough for larger sizes, etc., etc. I would point you to this comprehensive post on wireless bra myths by Soma for a complete rundown of bra-related falsehoods.

And there’s a particularly pernicious lie about wired bras causing breast cancer, which has roundly rejected. No, a wired bra won’t cause cancer by blocking your lymph fluid and halting is drainage.

But here’s some truth for you: Wired bras can be super uncomfortable, not just for women with large busts, but for all of us. Life is too short to be uncomfortable, right?

So, without further adieu, here’s a rundown of the most comfortable wireless bra options on the market. And, I made sure to include something for everyone. That is, you can find an option below for large busts and small busts, if you’re looking for straps or strapless, if you want lace, soft cups, etc. Enjoy!

The wireless bra options below are certainly comfortable. I’ve tried them, and I can recommend them from experience. But, the most comfortable bra for you is going to be the one that fits you well. So, test out different options, but make sure what you finally decide to invest in fits you as perfectly as possible. Even the wireless bra that’s designed for comfort won’t feel all that comfortable if it’s too loose or too tight.

Warner’s Elements of Bliss Wire-Free Lift Bra — Best Overall!

As I tried on wireless bra after wireless bra, there was one clear and incontrovertible winner: the Elements of Bliss Wire-Free Lift Bra from Warner’s. What did I love about it? Let me count the many things …

First of all, it’s fantastically comfortable. The fabric is so incredibly soft that it feels like I’m wearing something silky and luxurious. I’m not — it’s just nylon and spandex, like most other bras. But there’s something different about the way it feels on my skin.

Also, this bra delivers a slight-but-real natural lift. How does a wireless bra pull this off? This one includes a thick band that is incredibly supportive. Many women pass on wireless bras because they feel like only wired options give the shape they want. But that’s not the case with the Elements of Bliss. You get the lift you’d want from any bra, as well as a plunging neckline that ensures the bra doesn’t compete with plunging tops and outfits.

And, lastly, the Elements of Bliss comes in tons of different colors. Choose from among a wide range of solid colors (both neutral and vibrant options) as well as several different prints.

Calvin Klein Women’s Perfectly Fit Lightly Lined Wire-Free Contour Bra — Best T-Shirt!

What is a T-shirt bra? It’s one that feels like nothing and looks like nothing when worn underneath a T-shirt. Pretty simple, huh? Well, based on my testing, you won’t find a better T-shirt bra than the Perfectly Fit Lightly Lined Wire-Free Contour Bra by Calvin Klein.

In addition to comfort, there are two great things to keep in mind when considering this option. First, this is the only bra on this list that is made (partially) of Lycra Elastane, which is a warp knit that makes this bra stretchier and more flexible than other options. Also, this fabric makes the bra more durable, which is what makes this such a great value when you’re searching for the most comfortable wireless bra.

Need to know more? No bra lines or bulk under your T-shirt, which is awesome. And this bra also offers a touch of padding, which means you get a slight lift.

Yummie Peyton Strapless Convertible Bra — Best Strapless!

OK, so you might assume that there’s no such thing as a comfortable, wireless AND strapless bra. Well, let me share with you the Peyton Strapless Convertible Bra by Yummie. (It includes removable straps, but I think it works best as a strapless.)

Two of the big challenges with strapless bras in general are support and slippage. The bust channel is strong enough to provide plenty of support, even without a wire. And special silicone lining in the cups prevents the slippage problems that plague so many strapless bras.

There’s no closure to worry about, and you can choose from among four different color options: black, salmon, mushroom and almond.

Natori Feathers Wireless Convertible Bra — Best Convertible!

Ooh, so this is a wireless bra that I love. It’s listed here as best convertible, but it could just as easily be the best lace option.

And, on the lace end, you get a plunging neckline with lace edges in front, as well as a mesh back that helps this convertible wireless bra look smooth under your clothing.

Is a Wireless Bra Right for You?

Still on the fence about trying a wireless bra? Maybe you’re all about the comfort, but you still have concerns about the support. Let’s break this down as efficiently as possible, looking at the specific pros and cons of both wireless and wired bras.

The Pros of WIRELESS Bras

Comfort is the No. 1 benefit of choosing a wireless bra. Women by and large choose them because they feel much more like not wearing a bar at all. Also, a lot of wireless bras are barely noticeable to others — no lines under your clothing. And, you can find incredibly affordable wireless bra options.

The Cons of WIRELESS Bras

Wireless bras are limited in two ways. First, because there are no structural components providing support (no wire), all of the support comes from the material. For that reason, wireless bras tend to be made of the same types of materials — nylon, spandex. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but just know that material options are limited. And, second, the design of wireless bras tend to be similar. Why? Because the bridge is always just a tad higher to provide more support in the absence of a wire, and everything else is designed off of that.

Of course, and we’ve already covered this, but you already know that wireless bras don’t provide as much lift as wired options. This looks like a lot in the way of cons … but nothing trumps comfort!

The Pros of WIRED Bras

You get the lift you want. You get the structure you want. You can find plenty of different material and design options, too. For whatever reason, I see more wired bras whose look I love. I wish designers would spend as much time and attention making fun wireless bras. I’m sure there are constraints I’m not aware of. But, of course, check above for some of the more fun and comfortable options.

The Cons of WIRED Bras

They can be an incredible pain, literally. While there’s no proof that wired bras can actually be harmful to your long-term health, there’s enough acute pain in the short-term to make it easy to opt for a wireless option over one that includes a wire.

Questions to Ask Before You Buy

Let’s assume you’re onboard with trying a wireless bra. Good for you? And let’s also assume you’re having a hard time choosing one of the options above — or another option not listed here. Here are some questions you can ask to help guide your search and eventually land on the perfect option for you.

  • Are the straps supportive and adjustable? Generally, the wider the straps, the more support a wireless bra is going to provide. And, if the bra includes adjustable straps, you can maximize the comfort. Most bras do have adjustable straps, but be sure to check.
  • Does it include padding? Some bras include lots of padding, some just a little bit and some even none at all. Do you want lots of padding? Just a little? Make sure the wireless bras you’re considering have the right amount of padding to meet your needs.
  • What color do you need? Sometimes you find the perfect design and fit … but the color you want or need isn’t available. Check the colors before you fall too in love with a certain wireless bra, and make sure you’re not getting too excited about something that’s clearly not going to be an option.
  • How is it washed? If you don’t a washer and dryer, a hand wash-only bra may be perfect for you. But, if you want maximum convenience, it’s always nice to have a wireless bra you can just chunk in the wash. Also, keep in mind that the more you pay for a wireless bra the more durable it will most likely prove to be after dozens of washes.
  • What type of fabric does it include? The reason why our top choice is our top choice is in part because of the way it feels on your skin. While many of these bras use the same pool of materials, find a blend that you like and that makes you feel comfortable.

Final Thoughts on the Most Comfortable Wireless

I mentioned at the top the progress that’s been made in the bra world. Today, you can find options (like the ones above) that are advanced enough to perform almost as well as wired options while greatly improving your comfort level.

And I’ll say it one last time: Nothing is more important than comfort. Make sure, above all else, that you find a comfortable wireless bra that you love to wear.
